Las Vegas area fishing report 12/25/09

LAKE MEAD -- Anglers are finding fair fishing around the Hemenway and Boulder Harbor fishing piers. Boaters are catching catfish near the tires at Hemenway. Only a few anglers were successful in the Vegas Wash area. The Echo Bay area is slow in the morning.

LAKE MOHAVE -- Cottonwood Cove has been fair. With a little patience, trolling or still fishing 30 to 50 feet deep will catch stripers. Catfish are being caught on a variety of baits. Anglers at Willow Beach found good trout fishing after the plant Friday near the fishing pier.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Fishing has been fair. Diligent anglers have been catching fish with PowerBait and flies. While fishing at Floyd Lamb Park, Woody Linihan, a local fly-fishing instructor, recommended using a prince nymph, snow cone or a small, green zebra midge fished 6 to 8 feet below a strike indicator.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- There's little to no open water, keeping anglers away. Ice is too thin for ice fishing.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Ice forming on the reservoir is making fishing access difficult. Ice is too thin for ice fishing.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Anglers can find open water, but low water levels make fishing difficult. Ice is too thin for ice fishing.
