Default Reno fishing report 11/12/09

FRENCHMAN LAKE: Good fishing reports are still coming in. Anglers are catching limits of rainbow trout, 15 to 18 inches long, weighing 1 to 11/2 pounds. Fishermen are using nightcrawlers and various other lures in olive and black are doing well. Stream fishing ends Sunday. Colder weather will make fishing challenging. Details: Wiggin's Trading Post at 530-993-4683.

LAKE DAVIS: Fishing results have been great for all methods of fishing, bait fishing from shore, shallow trolling or fly-fishing. Water temperature is about 50 degrees. There are lots of fish and many quality-sized fish from 17 to 20 inches. Best area for shore fishermen has been Fairview. Fly-fishermen are very successful in the northeast corner and trolling has been good in all areas of the lake.

Midge patterns and snails have slowed down as the fish seem to want something a little larger as the water gets colder. Wiggle nymphs, damsels, sheep creeks, prince nymphs, birds nest and buggers all are catching fish. Details: 530-832-5251 ot e-mail dollards@psln.com.

PYRAMID LAKE: Fishing has been great. Buggers, beetles and tui chub imitations fished on a shooting head have been the most productive method of fishing. Good areas have been Monument, Wino, Block House and the Nets. Get out there and get yourself a big old Lahonton Cutty. Details: Reno Fly Shop at 775-825-3474 or www.renoflyshop.com.

TRUCKEE RIVER: Flows are still low, but have gone up in the past week, which is good for the fish. The low flows require a bit more stealth. The river is flowing at 20 c.f.s. through the town of Truckee, 111 c.f.s. at Farad and 117 c.f.s. through Reno. Fishing has been good. Try nymphs under an indicator fished on a floating line. Good nymph patterns have been October Caddis, Golden Stones, Copper Johns, Hares Ears, Pheasant tails and small baetis. Streamer fishing has been productive as well. Try McCunes Sculpin, Cutters Goblin and Kiwi Muddlers. Details: Reno Fly Shop at 775-825-3474 or www.renoflyshop.com.

LITTLE TRUCKEE RIVER: The L.T. remains stable at 31 c.f.s. and the fishing has been good. There have been a few Blue Winged Olives hatching midday, so be sure to have some hackle stackers and drymerger BWOs. Nymphs fished under an indicator on a floating line have been the most productive. Try San Juan Worms, Mighty-Mite baetis, Mighty Mays, Zebra Midges and small Pheasant Tails. Details: Reno Fly Shop at 775-825-3474 or www.renoflyshop.com.

EAST WALKER RIVER: The East Walker is low at 19 c.f.s. The water is low and clear, the fish are spooky, but the fishing is good. Nymphs fished under an indicator on a floating line has been the best method. Try San Juan Worms, Micro Mays, small Pheasant tails, Zebra Midges and Ju Ju midges. There have also been some fish eating small blue winged olives on the surface. Try size 20 Parachute Adams and Sprout Baetis. Details: Reno Fly Shop at 775-825-3474 or www.renoflyshop.com.

BUCKS LAKE: Fishing for bigger browns is traditionally pretty good here this time of year. Try Rapals and Rebels. Mackinaw fishing should also be decent. Use Kwikfish type lures or Flatfish. Details: Mark Fore & Strike at 775-786-3474 or 775-322-9559.
