FRENCHMAN LAKE: Fishing has been excellent. Many reports of limits with some good sized trout coming out, 14-22 inches, up to 3-4 pounds. Shore fishing is a little slow, but some anglers have caught limits. Trolling seems to be better. Various lures working, mostly in blue or green. Saturday is a California free fishing day. Conditions can change quickly so call ahead. Wiggin's Trading Post, (530) 993-4683.
LAKE DAVIS: The lake received at least three truck loads of catchable size plants in late June. One of those fish was caught by Jim Jennings on June 2626. His prize weighed 5.255 pounds and hit a # 2 Pearl Bikini Needlefish that was trolled 8 feet below the surface on the east side of the big Island. Water surface temperatures are running 67 degrees. Fishing is rated as fair for those trolling, fly-fishing or fishing from shore with bait. The damsel hatch has been light, however Pheasant Tail Bead Heads and Sheep Creek specials are patterns that have been consistently producing fish up to 19 inches. On June 24, Roger Wyman and Sherman Wyman landed 20-plus fish up to 18 inches while fly-fishing from float tubes at Eagle point. Their successful presentation was using Pheasant tail flies about 4 feet under an indicator. Bait fishing from shore has been steady at Eagle Point.
TRUCKEE RIVER: The fishing remains excellent on the river. Perfect flows and lots of bugs have been the norm of late. California: There is more water coming out of Lake Tahoe now. Flows are 240 c.f.s. through the town of Truckee and the fishing has really improved in the upper river. The flows remain in the 550 c.f.s. range in the lower California sections down to Mogul. Nymphing with dead drift crayfish patterns, golden stones, little yellow stones and caddis have all been working well during the mid-morning. In the evenings, the caddis and little yellow stones have been hatching about an hour before dark. But stay till dark.
