INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

The best bet has been to target snook throughout the Indian River Lagoon and near the Sebastian Inlet. Anglers are finding fish just under slot size and in the slot along the mangrove shorelines. Try tossing live baits where possible led by finger mullet. Anglers have reported a very solid run of bait this month around the area. Wethaer conditions may be blustery and wet Tuesday, but snook fishing on the outgoing tide should be productive.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY

Capt. Scott Crippen of White's Tackle Shop in Fort Pierce said on his shop's Web site anglers should not be discouraged by the dirty water — the fishing is still pretty good. Redfish have been on the flats north of North Causeway. Travis Gates caught eight including two in the upper end of the slot and six larger than the slot Sunday. Jerk baits like Exudes, Berkley Gulp! baits and D.O.A.s impregnated with shrimp work well as they are scented.

MARTIN COUNTY

Dirty water has extended like a plume into the Atlantic Ocean now that additional stormwater runoff from Lake Okeechobee has been added to runoff from Tropical Storm Fay. Capt. Steve Dixon of Mystic Diver II reported that fishing the bridge rubble artificial reefs a few miles from the inlet appeared like the St. Lucie River. A few small snapper was all his anglers managed. Another angler reported catching a couple of snook including slot sized ones near the jetties of the inlet, but live bait was impossible to find.

LAKE OKEECHOBEE

Bass fishing has been good in the Rim Canal and along the edges of vegetation that are beginning to be repopulated by fish searching forage. The water is still on the dirty side in the main lake, but the rate of water flowing into the lake has begun to drop off. White and chartreuse spinner baits and crank baits are getting bites as are trick worms. Cichlids, bream and shellcrackers will be found on beds this week.
