I won't go near the lake when there's bad weather. How long do you wait after it's passed before you head back out?

Well, it depends on the bad weather for us. We love to fish in the rain. We both love the rain, and when you are camping in a trailer and it's raining out... you sort of have to accept it. LOL. If it's like a full blown thunder storm out, then I'm just going to curl up and read, or stand under cover.

Sometimes we go when it's super hot out... but that is just horrible. I'd rather fish in the rain that in the heat like that.

I've actually been "bad" and fished during a thunderstorm. It was hot out, so the rain felt really nice.

Me neither! Nothing beats lazing around outside and being able to hop in the water or stand in a passing rain shower when you get too warm.

Yeah... after you stated that, I found myself staring out of our front storm door at the snow on the pavement... and I was cursing all of that snow and cold weather and ice all in the back of my mind. LOL

Is fishing better after a storm, or before it? I know there is a rule of thumb about it.

I don't mind a gentle rain, I just hate being around the water when there's lightning. I've heard that fishing after the rain is better, because the fish are more active trying to catch the bugs that are stirred up from the rain. I could be wrong, but that's what my husband always says.

Definitely before. After a front moves through, fish can really turn off, or at least be less agressive.

I have caught some of my best fish in the worst of storms. I will say just after a thunderstrom, is probably my very favorite. Its when the bugs come out again and the fish are ready to jump.My very favorite of all fishing is on the high sea with a raging wave and tons of sick fishermen going below and I am the onlny one standing. I caught a bass that day. I was so proud of myself. I went with my Dad and he was so sick himself. And he never was, who did you think taught me.

I don't mind fishing in the rain at all! I do agree that the fish are more active before a storm than after and that they seem to go into hiding after the storm has passed. Might depend on the type of fish though...LOL
As for fishing during thunderstorms...I don't mind that either! As long as the lightning isn't too close I'll stay out and get soaked. :D

I don't know that we have that bad of weather LOL... We fish in the rain quite a bit.. you get some good catches when it rains. Now if it is lightening, we will sit idle and not do a lot of moving around, I have always heard that activity might draw lightening closer, where that is true or not IDK but I do know that water and lightening is a bad combination so that's usually when we call it quits.
