NORTHEAST REGION

Barnes Meadow Reservoir-Most anglers were having a lot success last weekend. The fish were averaging 8-10 inches with a few 12-inch fish caught. Most anglers were having their best luck with worms suspended 2-3 feet below the surface.

Boedecker Reservoir-The water level remains high. The crappie bite has slowed, but fishing for white bass has been fairly good. Try spinners, white jigs and small Rat.L.Traps. Brushy areas have been best.

Boyd Lake-The surface temperature is up around 70 degrees, and the depth is 56 feet. Fishing remains steady. Walleyes have been hitting crank baits and worm-baited bottom bouncers in the north and south ends. White bass are hitting spinners and worms in the south end. Trout fishing is fairly good near the inlets on Kastmasters and worms. Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass is fair near inlets. Yellow perch are being taken near the north inlet and pump house on spinners, and catfish in deep water on various baits. Some large bluegills recently were taken along the channel.

Carter Reservoir-Rising water temperatures, combined with the pumps into Carter being turned off, have improved fishing. Walleyes of 17 to 18 inches have been the main attraction and are being caught from the shore. Boating fishermen have taken some larger fish at night.

Chambers Lake-Fishermen have had fair success for trout on salmon eggs, PowerBait and small Kastmasters.

Dixon Reservoir-Weeds are growing along the edges and making it more difficult to trick a fish onto your hook. Most anglers have been catching bluegill and green sunfish with the occasional bass. Most of those are being caught with worms.

Flatiron Reservoir-Many fishermen reporting stocker-sized trout being caught. Worms and other baits continue to be the favorite.

Horsetooth Reservoir-The level remains good. Clarity ranges from good to stained, depending on runoff and the volume of boat traffic. Most fishermen are enjoying very good activity for smallmouth bass. Tube jigs, jerk baits and Rapalas have been producing lots of bass as well as some walleyes and a few trout.

Jackson Reservoir-The lake is full, and the water temperature is about 76 degrees. Fishing for wipers has been fair to good off the dam and along the west shore on the typical baits. An occasional walleye and some trout also are being caught.

Joe Wright Reservoir-The reservoir is almost 100 percent ice-free, with a small chunk of ice hanging on along the dam. It also is very full. Most anglers are reporting they were not catching anything, though.

Jumbo Reservoir-Water levels are good. Most fishing is best from boats. A few catfish are being caught on the west end. Trout fishing has been good from a boat, and many are nice sized.

Lon Hagler Reservoir-The level is a little low but good. Fishermen have been taking a few catfish, mostly at night. Otherwise, fishing generally has been slow.

Lonetree Reservoir-The level remains high, and the water temperature has been rising. Fishing for some decent-sized bass and walleyes has been fairly good. Bass have been hitting top-water lures and buzz baits. Walleyes are being taken from the brushy areas on leeches.

Long Draw Reservoir-The Long Draw Road is closed.

North Sterling Reservoir-Parks staff reports the reservoir is full, with both the inlet and outlet running. The water temperature is in the upper 70s. Trout are being caught near the inlet, Sunset Point and north dam areas on green mussels and worms. A lot of wipers are coming from the Goose Island, dam and Darby Point areas on green mussels and crank baits. Keeper-sized walleyes are being taken around Goose Island on worm-rig harnesses without spinners only beads. Catfish are on the flats with cut bait working best. Crappie have slowed.

Pinewood Reservoir-Catchable-sized trout comprise most of the catch, but fishing has slowed. A few 20- to 25-inch tiger muskies have been reported.

Poudre River-The river recently was measuring 1,630 cfs at Fort Collins and 2,670 cfs at the mouth of the canyon. So, it has come down a bit, but it hit a high of 4,000 cfs a few days ago and has been getting close to 3,000 cfs at high times. It is a little lower above Gateway, running at 2,464 cfs. The river also is murky through these stretches. Above the narrows, the flow is less and the river is clearer. In the murky areas, worms, heavier lures and streamers have been seeing some success, with worms working the best overall. Try fishing at the big holes on the bends of the river and you should have some success. In the upper stretches, nymphing has been working well and the Rooster Tail and Mepps-style lures have been working, also.

Prewitt Reservoir-The water level is full. Wiper and trout fishing is good.A few 12- to 13-inch walleyes are being caught on night crawlers.
