There's still some trout fishing to be had, apparently. One angler fishing the delayed harvest section of Loyalhanna Creek with flies this week landed seven trout, the longest, a 21-incher, said Martha Martino of Jimmy's Bait Shop in South Greensburg. Anglers using shiners also landed a 19-inch brown and a palomino in the area around Kingston Dam.
Also on the Loyalhanna, for the second week in a row, an angler landed an 11-inch bluegill, according to Fish and Boat Commission reports.
Walleye continue to provide lots of action on Lake Erie, with fishing along the shore from Walnut Creek to the Ohio line very productive. The perch fishing has been inconsistent, but bass are still biting along shore near the Walnut access wall.
At Conneaut Lake, anglers have been picking up lots of largemouth and smallmouth bass, along with nice-sized bluegills. The northern pike fishing has also been good, though the crappie fishing has slowed.
Fishing the Back Channel Dam area on the Ohio River, Sheldon White of Pittsburgh caught a 5-pound, 4-ounce, 23-inch striped bass, said Wayne Lykens of Island Firearms of Neville Island. The fish hit a shiner.
Anglers using shiners around the weed edges have been getting northern pike early in the morning at Yellow Creek Lake.
Fishing in the Beaver River has been slow because of some muddy conditions, according to a spokesman at Shooter's Place in Bridgewater.
Shenango Dam has been giving up a few hybrid stripers for those out at night, but things have been slow otherwise. At the dam's tailrace, however, fishermen have been getting trout, walleye, striped bass, and smallmouth bass.
Walleyes of 18 to 25 inches have been caught with some regularity at Lake Wilhelm recently, but the panfishing has slowed. Bass tournaments held on the lake last weekend, meanwhile, produced several fish between three and five pounds.
Few anglers have been venturing out onto Keystone Lake in Armstrong County, said Pam Warr of Keystone Bait and Tackle in Shelocta. Those going out have been getting smallmouth bass on topwater lures, leeches and minnows, however. A few nice walleyes have also been caught, along with some bluegills and perch.
Anglers using Plow Jockeys were reporting good catches of bass at Mammoth Dam, too.
There's been little fishing pressure at Twin Lakes, with resulting few catches.
Carp and catfish were providing action on the Monongahela River last weekend.
On Prince Gallitzin State Park's Glendale Lake, anglers have been getting some small panfish.
