LAKES

ANDERSON: This is the best bass lake in the Santa Clara Valley. The dam and the north end of the lake is good for drop-shotted plastics. Bass are 1-2 pounds. 408-927-9144, 408-463-0711.

BERRYESSA: Bass bite is improving, and some anglers are enjoying 10- and 20-fish days. Trout fishing continues to be slow, but few are on the water. 707-451-1199, 916-502-3474.

CAMANCHE: Trout bite continues to be good, especially from the south shore day use area and the south shore pond. Bass are holding 30 to 40 feet deep off points. Jigs or plastic worms work best. 209-763-5915, 209-763-5166.

CHABOT: Bank fishing is best at Raccoon Point. Trolling slowed since the weekend rain. Visibility is 3-4 feet and even clearer in Half Moon Bay. A 9.8-pound trout was the big fish of the week. It was caught by Robert Gott of Oakland with Power Bait. 510-247-2526.

CALERO: There's a reaction bite with the warmer weather. Spinnerbaits and swimbaits can get bass to 4 pounds. 408-268-3883, 408-463-0711.

CHESBRO: It's quiet, but crappie may turn on if the warm weather continues. 408-358-3741, 408-463-0711.

MCALPINE: Power Baits take trout, but a fly fisher Monday caught a 10-pound rainbow. Bass and catfish are deep. 831-623-4263.

QUARRY LAKES: A 10.2-pound rainbow was caught Tuesday at Fisherman's Row by Bob Tebelskis of Fremont for big fish of the week. A plant of 800 pounds went in Monday510-544-3130.

SAN LUIS RESERVOIR: The main lake is full so the striped bass and bait are spread around. Forebay is fishing better, but stripers are 12-20 inches. Use anchovies or pile worms. 408-463-0711.

UVAS: Bass anglers near the dam get fish 1-2 pounds with jigs and baby brush hogs. 408-463-0711.

RIVERS

EEL: Main stem is in decent shape and fishing fairly well. Lower end of the South Fork is producing steelhead. 707-923-2533.

GUALALA: Steelhead fishing has been good since Friday when a fresh run of fish entered. 707-884-4247.

RUSSIAN: Weekend fishing was fair, and the subsequent rain brought a surge of water that knocked the river off. It should be fine by the weekend. February typically brings best returns of steelhead. 707-869-2156.

SACRAMENTO (Lower): Water is at 4,000 cfs, but that's a stable level over the past four days, and that should improve the trout bite. Mayfly patterns and green caddis are the go-to flies. 1-800-670-4448; 530-222-3555.

TRINITY: There's very little traffic on the river, and the water is low. Steelhead fishing has been slow. 530-623-4999.

VAN DUZEN: The Van Duzen has good color, but most efforts are focused on the Eel. 707-764-5744.

DELTA

FRANK'S TRACT: There's fish life again here. The warmer weather has made black bass a little more active. Black and blue jigs and the Bobby D Grinder are getting results. Bass are off points and close to the currents. Stripers 4 to 6 pounds take frozen or fresh shad. Some chase rattl-traps. 925-625-2441.

PITTSBURG: Sturgeon fishing is fair at buoys 31 and 33, the PG&E plant and Big Cut and Little Cut. Stripers are in the same places but are schoolie size. 925-252-0151, 916-777-6498.

RIO VISTA: Striped bass and sturgeon are at the Power lines and on the San Joaquin River. The river is in fair shape with not much debris. Trollers are getting small striped bass. 916-502-3474, 707-374-2372.

SALTWATER

EMERYVILLE: Sturgeon trips are on hold until Feb. 12. Reservations are being accepted. 510-654-6040.

MONTEREY: Boats return with buckets of sand dabs and limits of crab. Trips go out on Saturdays and Sundays. 831-375-5951; 831-372-7440.

PACIFICA: Crabbing remains good off the pier. Perch are being caught from the beaches with blood worms, pile worms or plastic grubs. 650-355-8303, 650-359-9790.

SAN FRANCISCO: Six sturgeon were caught at the A-Crane near Hunters Point over the weekend. Wind has kept boats in the harbor in the South Bay since then. There's still a perch bite from the piers, but most are trying for sturgeon. 650-589-3474; 510-703-4148.
