Redfish Bay and northward -- Hog Island Flats is holding redfish. Some are being caught with finger mullet or cut mullet. Traylor and Mud islands are producing trout on croaker. The backside of San Jose Island produced trout for waders this week. Topwaters worked early and soft plastics later. Croaker are working best on trout along deeper drop-offs of St. Charles, Aransas and Redfish bays. Reds also are in the potholes of Estes Flats and surrounding flats. Most were caught with cut bait or live perch, dead menhaden. Copano Bay's back shorelines and reefs and Aransas Bay reefs were good for trout on croaker this week. Brown & Root flats is holding a few schools of redfish. San Antonio Bay produced trout, reds and drum near reefs. The back lakes of Matagorda and San Jose islands held redfish. Uprooting seagrass with an outboard propeller is unlawful in the Redfish Bay State Scientific Area.

Port Aransas -- The inside of Dagger Island and tight against Dagger's outside shore has reds on natural baits, topwaters and soft plastics. The drop-off along Dagger is holding trout. The banks of the Lydia Ann Chanel produced a mix of trout, reds and flounder this week. Early morning trout, pompano, jacks and Spanish mackerel were at the jetties when winds allowed this week. Trout were along the ship channel and in East Flats. Shamrock, Deadmans, Kate's Hole still held a few fish this week. Reds on soft plastics or spoons and drum on live shrimp or Berkley Gulp! were scattered near Shamrock channels. A The Jetty Boat is running out of Fisherman's Wharf (749-5448). Horace Caldwell Pier reported reds, whiting, a few black drum, along with nighttime trout and reds. Call (361) 749-2828.

Gulf beachfront -- Trout, including some big ones, are along area beaches. Most are being caught with live bait or soft plastics. Bob Hall Pier produced reds, jacks, a few kingfish and whiting. Water clarity has improved and sargasssum is not bad. Driving is OK except during high tide. Anglers also caught redfish, whiting, jacks, Spanish mackerel and a few sharks earlier this. Offshore -- Snapper season is to open in federal waters. And snapper trips have been producing some fish now that seas are calmer. Party boats and charters caught grouper, kingfish, sharks, amberjack, triggerfish, ling, vermilion snapper and a few tuna and wahoo on longer trips.

Corpus Christi/Nueces Bays -- Fishing in Nueces Bay improved this week. Croaker near the reefs produced trout and some redfish. The Portland shoreline of Corpus Christi Bay still has trout. Croaker is working best as bait there too. Drum were caught near the bridge and beyond on back- and mid-bay reefs this week. The outside spoils along the ship channel near Ingleside and the outside of Dagger produced trout near the drop and reds near shore this week on croaker. Call Clem's Pier at 949-8445.

Laguna Madre/Baffin Bay -- Good numbers of trout have returned to northern sections of the Upper Laguna Madre. Emmords Hole and sections of the King Ranch shorelines produced trout on croaker this week. Rocks at the mouth and mid-sections of Baffin Bay produced good numbers of trout this week mostly on croaker. But waders also caught fish on SkitterWalks and soft plastics. Baffin's south shore, Yarborough and the Meadows are clear enough for sightcasting to redfish in sunshine. Landcut slowed this week as winds calmed, but they're still catching some upper-class trout on croaker there. Trout and a few reds began showing up around Bird Island southward near east-side spoil islands. Shrimp also caught fish for drift anglers. Anglers caught a few black drum, trout, sand trout, ladyfish and reds mostly at night at Marker 37 (949-8037), Cos Way (939-7513) and Red Dot piers (937-5347).

Choke Canyon Reservoir -- Fishing has improved early along banks in heavy vegetation. Weedless topwater frogs, buzzbaits worked early and Texas rigged soft plastics and spinnerbaits produced fish from mid-morning on. A few bigger bass are being caught with Texas-rigged lizards along the river bed, mostly in depths of 10-foot or so. White bass are being caught on jigs and minnows, along with a few crappie. Coleto Creek -- Anglers have been catching decent numbers of good bass around the island with Wacky Worms and topwater plugs then later with Texas-rigged plastics in the same area. Vegetation along banks of coves produced fish on weightless worms or lizards. Hybrid bass and catfish fishing continues at the Dike II discharge. Lake Corpus Christi -- Bass have been good in heavy structure along banks and coves in the morning. Crappie also had been good off the pier at Sunrise Beach Park on minnows just about any time of day. Catfish and gaspergou also are being caught in and around coves on shad.
