Tennessee

Pickwick Lake: Guide Clagett Talley (731-607-5266) says bass fishing has been excellent, with fish biting a variety of baits throughout the day. Bass are busting topwater baits just after sunrise around the grassy areas. Most of the bass have been caught in the backs of coves with a few also hanging out around shallow areas on the main lake. Catfish are biting night crawlers and shad guts fished on the bottom below the dam.

Kentucky Lake: Guide Steve McCadams (731-642-0360) says crappie fishing has been fair around the stake beds and brush piles in 8-13 feet despite high winds and cooler temps. Jigs tipped with minnows or Berkley Power Bait have been working well. Fish were taking shallow-running crankbaits in the Tennessee shad color and chrome/blue pattern before the bad weather set in.

Reelfoot Lake: Guide Billy Blakely of Blue Bank Resort (731-676-9841) says crappie fishing has been excellent all over the lake. Most anglers are using jig poles to catch fish around cover in 2-8 feet. Limits have been common during the past three weeks.

Mississippi

Grenada Lake: The lake is 0.1 feet below rule curve. Collins' Bait Shop (662-226-3581) says crappie anglers have been doing very well jigging the timber in 3-6 feet of water near Torrance Landing. Good numbers of white bass can also be taken around main-lake points with small crankbaits, white curly-tail grubs and Marabou jigs.

Horn Lake: The staff at the Lakeview Boat Dock (662-781-1550) says pier fishermen are catching lots of eating-size bream on crickets. Bass have been biting spinnerbaits and Texas-rigged plastics in the stump field out from the runout.

Arkansas

Little Red River: Fly-fishing guide Philip Landry (901-461-8822) says water releases from Greers Ferry Dam have been almost nonexistent. Because of the low water, fly anglers should use smaller offerings than normal. The brown trout spawn is on the verge of beginning in a few places on the river. Landry asks anglers to please be careful when wading not to step in spawning beds and use extra-special care when handling egg-filled browns.

White River: Sportsman's White River Resort (870-453-2424) says zero to three generators have been running around the clock, and rainbow trout fishing has been good on shrimp and all colors of Berkley PowerBait.
