Clayton Lake: Fishing is good for 16-17-inch rainbows with many limits reported. Spinners and power bait are working best. No reports on other species. Officials said 2,772 rainbows were stocked last week.
Conchas Lake: The water is fairly clear with the temperature in the mid-60s. Walleye are reported as slow with minnows. Crappie are good in shallow water with jigs and minnows. Bass are slow but most are small. No reports on catfish.
Ute Lake: Walleye are reported as very good with jigs and minnows. Crappie are fair in 10-15 feet of water using small minnows. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are moving into spawning areas and are fair with jigs and spinner baits. Catfish are slow using stink bait. No reports on white bass.
Sumner Lake: Winter trout waters, stilling basin walleye are reported as good trolling bottom bouncers with night crawlers around the rocky points. Crank baits and minnows are working well for walleye along the brush line at 6-9 feet in the northern river channel. Largemouth bass are reported as fair to good using tube jigs off the rocky points.
Santa Rosa Lake: There has been light pressure due to winds, and fishing was slow for all species.
Northwest
* Animas River - The flow is at 695 CFS and water is still high and muddy. No report.
* Chama River - Upper section flow is at 862 CFS and fishing is poor. Below El Vado Dam, the flow is 1,240 CFS and the water is green, high and murky. There has been light pressure with a few reports of 14-15” browns caught on night crawlers. Fly fishermen might try streamers.
* San Juan River - Upper section-Catch and Release flow is at 464 CFS and visibility is 3 ft. Fishing is good for rainbows and browns up to 20” in most areas of the river. Best patterns have been cream larva, gray WD-40s, flash back pheasant tails and foam wing emergers. Light dry fly action is reported in the early evenings with Griffith gnats or Parachute Adams.
* Lower section – Open waters, fishing is fair for stocker size rainbows using gold Kastmasters, worms, salmon eggs and the same flies as for the upper section. 2,867 rainbows were stocked last week.
* Abiquiu Lake - The water is turbid with a greenish cast and the temperature is 45 degrees. There has been light pressure with a few small walleye being caught with jigs and worms. Browns up to 20” are reported as slow to fair with night crawlers.
* El Vado Lake – The water is clearing but still murky. Fishing has been good for 21-25” rainbows and browns from the shore and trolling. Gold Super Dupers, Rapalas, worms and rainbow Power Bait are working well.
* Heron Lake – Lake trout are reported as fair to good trolling white flatfish and rainbow bombers or jigging at 30-40 ft. Most are averaging 10-15 lbs. Rainbows up to 16” are good from the bank with peach Power Bait or worms.
* Jackson Lake - Trout are reported as slow with gold or silver spinners or Power Bait.
* Lake Farmington – Trout are slow using spinners or Power Bait.
* Morgan Lake – No report.
* Navajo Lake – Pike are good with spinners, jerk baits and crank baits, with best reports from the San Juan and Pine arms, fishing in structure close to shore. Largemouth bass are reported as good in shallow water at the mouth of LaJara using soft plastics and crank baits. Crappie are fair to good with jigs and minnows. No reports on other species.
Northeast
* Cimarron River - The flows are 2.2 CFS below Eagle Nest Dam and 50 CFS near Cimarron. Trout are reported as good with small beadhead nymphs and worms.
* Costilla Creek - No read on flows below the dam due seasonal closure; flow near the town of Costilla is 84 CFS. The Valle Vidal is closed until July 1.
* Red River - Flows at Questa are 81 CFS, and 105 CFS below the hatchery. Trout are reported as slow in the upper river and below the hatchery. Small nymphs are your best bet.
* Rio Grande - Flows are 1,170 CFS at Taos Junction Bridge and 720 CFS near Cerro. The water is high and muddy and fishing is slow for all species. Last week 15,594 fingerling cutthroats were stocked in the Gorge above Pilar.
* Rio Hondo - Fishing is fair with bead head nymphs and #14-16 copper johns.
* Rio Pueblo - Flow is 160 CFS. The water is murky and fishing is slow. Try small nymphs or copper johns.
* Cabresto Lake – The water is clear and brook trout are reported as good with bead head nymphs and copper johns.
* Charette Lakes – Fishing is good for 12-18” rainbows trolling Christmas tree/worm combos and from the shore with Power Bait and worms.

* Lake Alice and Lake Maloya –The water level is still low at Lake Alice, but trout are reported as good using spoons, Pistol Pete’s and Power Bait. 326 rainbows were stocked last week. Fishing is good at Maloya for stocker size trout with spoons, Pistol Pete’s, Power Bait and marshmallows working best. 1,950 rainbows were stocked last week.
* Maxwell Lakes –Since Lake 13 was recently filled, trout remain slow. An occasional catfish has been reported using worms.
* Shuree Ponds - Closed for the season.
* Springer Lakes – Cold, windy weather kept most anglers away and there is no report.
# fishing conditions are great. The East Fork, San Antonio and Jemez are fishing well with bead head nymphs, San Juan worms, salmon eggs or worms working well when fished off the bottom. The Guadalupe is still high and muddy with no reports. Metro Drainages – No report this week. Catfish will be stocked in May.
# Bluewater Lake – Trout are reported as fair with salmon eggs, worms and Power Bait. Tiger muskies are fair to good from the shore using silver spoons. There were no reports of any keeper-size muskies.
# Cochiti Lake – The water is very high, brown and turbid with lots of debris. The Cochiti boat ramp is closed, picnic tables are under water, and Santa Cruz road is flooded. There has been light pressure and fishing is slow for all species.
# Fenton Lake – Fishing is fair to good for stocker size trout. Most success has been from float tubes and boats with Mepps spinners, green Pistol Pete’s, worms, salmon eggs and Power Bait. 2,200 rainbow trout were stocked last week.
# Tingley Beach - South Pond catch and release - Trout fishing is good with nymphs and hoppers. Children's and Central Ponds - Trout are reported as slow with Power Bait and salmon eggs. Bluegills are good with worms. A few catfish have been caught on worms. Watch for catfish to be stocked in May.
East–Central, including the Pecos River
* Coyote Creek - Flow is 10 CFS. Fishing is good with Pistol Pete’s, Panther Martins, salmon eggs, corn and worms.
* Pecos River - Flows are 215 CFS near Pecos and 114 CFS below Sumner Dam. The water is murky and fishing is fair. San Juan worms, caddis larva or pupa, or stonefly nymphs drifted along the bank may work. Last week 442 rainbows were stocked from Cowles to the Village of Pecos.

* Elephant Butte Lake – White bass are reported as fair drifting live bait or minnows. Walleye are slow using shiners. Crappie are good with jigs and minnows. An occasional 20 lb. striped bass has been reported using live bait. No reports on other species.
* Glenwood Ponds – Snow, rain and high winds kept fishermen away. No report.
* Lake Roberts - Trout are reported as good with peach Power Bait, crayfish and worms. Largemouth bass are reported as fair with crank baits and plugs.
* Quemado Lake – Trout are good with many limits reported. Pink Power Bait has been most successful. Tiger muskies are good with copper and red Z-rays and Panther Martins.
* Snow Lake – No fishing report.
Southeast
* Black River - Flow is 3.4 CFS. There is no fishing report.
* Bonito Creek - Trout are good using salmon eggs and worms. 323 rainbow trout were stocked last week.
* Rio Ruidoso - Flow is at 58 CFS and the water is clearing. Trout are good using Panther Martins, salmon eggs and worms. 812 rainbows were stocked last week.
* Bonito Lake - Fishing is good with Pistol Pete’s, salmon eggs, and Power Bait. 1,947 rainbows were stocked last week.
* Bottomless Lakes: Winter trout waters – There will be no more reports until stocking resumes in the fall.
* Brantley Reservoir - A mandatory catch and release is in place at Brantley Lake from the dept.
