Lake of the Woods
Ballard's Resort reports excellent fishing and suggests going deep to 24-30 feet for walleye outside the Lighthouse and Morris areas using a jig with a minnow.
Ely area
Skube's Bait reports good walleye bite in area lakes. Use minnows and leeches in 10-15 feet and shallower.
Leech Lake
Reed's Sporting Goods reports walleyes are hitting on crankbaits in Walker Bay in the evening and on jigs, shiners and leeches on the main lake reefs in 6-14 feet.
Lake Minnetonka
Wayzata Bait reports good crappie and bass action in 15 feet and shallower. Bass are three weeks late in spawning and guarding their nests and hitting on anything. Also good northern action and walleyes being taken at night.
Alexandria area
Christopherson's Bait reports anglers are catching panfish in 1-3 feet in the Chain of Lakes. Walleye action has been OK in the smaller lakes such as Reno, Andrew, Stowes and Mary using shiner minnows and nightcrawlers in 6-12 feet. Also some walleyes have been hitting at night offshore. Bass are in the shallows spawning and hitting on plastic worms.
Stillwater-St. Croix River
Anglers have been catching walleyes in 24 feet drifting with the current using nightcrawlers and leeches, according to Jimmy's Bait and Tackle. Crappies have been deeper, in 30-35 feet, and hitting on crappie minnows.
