Trout Fishing

For Great Smoky Mountains National Park streams, suggested hatch patterns are No. 20-16 Blue-Winged Olive, No. 14-12 October Caddis and 20-18 Crème Midge. Attractor patterns: No. 14-12 tan Elk Hair Caddis, No. 16-14 Royal Wulff, No. 16-14 Royal Stimulator, No. 14-12 orange Palmer, No. 16-12 red and orange Humpy, No. 14-12 gray parachute Adams and No. 16-14 Peacock Body Caddis. Nymphs: No. 16-12 beadhead olive Hare's Ear, No. 16-12 rubber-legged beadhead Prince, No. 10-8 black or olive Woolly Booger, No. 10-8 Dark Stone, No. 16-12 flashback beadhead Pheasant Tail and No. 14-12 Secret Weapon.

Streams are full and slightly dingy. Best time to fish is 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

For the Tuckasegee River, suggested hatch patterns are No. 14-10 October Caddis, No. 20-18 Crème Midge and No. 12-10 white Mayfly (late evening). Attractor patterns: No. 14-12 tan Elk Hair Caddis, No. 16-14 Royal Wulff, No. 16-14 Royal Stimulator, No. 14-12 orange Palmer, No. 16-12 red or orange Humpy, No. 14-12 gray parachute Adams and No. 16-14 Peacock Body Caddis. Nymphs: No. 12-10 Girdlebug, No. 12-10 Black Stone, No. 18-14 black rubber-legged beadhead Prince, No. 12-10 brown or olive Woolly Booger and No. 12-10 egg pattern.

Streams are full and slightly dingy.

For the Nantahala River, recommended hatch patterns are No. 20-16 Blue-Winged Olive and No. 14-12 tan Elk Hair Caddis. Attractors: No. 18-14 gray Parachute Adams and No. 12-10 parachute Royal Wulff. Nymphs: No. 14-12 Caddis Emerger, No. 18-14 red Copper John, No. 12-10 black Woolly Booger, No. 18-14 Hare's Ear and No. 14-12 Secret Weapon.

Best time to fish is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Stream full and clear.
Lake Fishing

Fishing has been very good this week. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are hitting along with walleye.

Chatuge: Spotted bass and largemouth bass are hitting live minnows and crankbaits fished off rocky points and rocky banks. Catfish are hitting large bass minnows fished around structure such as High Bridge. Yellow perch and bream are hitting redworms. For more information, call 389-6465.

Fontana: Good action on spotted bass, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. The bass are mostly off rocky banks and points and are hitting live minnows, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. The bass are consistently found at depths of 15 to 20 feet. Walleye are hitting Ice Jigs fished at depths of 60 feet. For more information, call 498-2211 or 488-6423.

James: Fair smallmouth bass action fishing with minnows off points. Some walleye activity trolling with small spoons.

Julian: Largemouth bass are hitting nightcrawlers, plastic worms and spinnerbaits. Catfish are hitting nightcrawlers, stinkbait and chicken livers. For more information, call David Blynt at 684-0376.
