Bear Lake

You can launch your boat at the Utah State Park marina, First Point, Rainbow Cove and Cisco Beach ramps. The lake trout run is nearing the peak. Shore anglers are catching lake trout from Cisco Beach and the Utah State Park marina by casting spoons and crankbaits. Boat anglers report steady success for both cutthroat and lake trout. Anglers who are trolling at 1.5 to 2.0 m.p.h. are doing the best. Try trolling parallel to Cisco Beach, the east side of the lake or off any other rocky shoreline. For lake trout, stay in water less than 20 feet. Cutthroat are in 30 to 50 feet of water. Try trolling with flatfish and rattling minnow-type lures near to the bottom. Trolling off the rockpile at Ideal Beach in 40 to 60 foot depth range is producing cutthroat and lake trout. Jigging in these same areas and depths has also produced fish. The best fishing is in the morning, but late afternoon and early evenings are also good. Shore fishing for spawning lake trout is perfectly legal, but snagging lake trout is illegal. Tickets will be issued to any anglers who are snagging or attempting to snag fish.

Birch Creek Reservoir

The water clarity is very good with just a little residue left from the algae blooms. The small rainbows that had been stocked earlier this year are leaping out of the water trying to escape the big tiger trout. Two Salt Lake anglers fishing with worms caught three fish close to 20 inches in length. Try brown- or rainbow-colored Rapalas or spinners. This is the best time of year for tiger trout, but it won't last for long. There's a reason that Rich County is called The Nation's Icebox. A freeze-up will come soon.

Blacksmith Fork River

Anglers report fair fishing. Try targeting brown trout with nightcrawlers.

Causey Reservoir

Hunter Greg Farley reports good success for 12- to 14-inch rainbows using worms, yellow PowerBait and salmon eggs. One angler caught a Kokanee using green PowerBait.

East Canyon Reservoir

There is light fishing pressure. Anglers report good success for rainbows in water down to 40 feet.

Echo Reservoir

Fall running rainbow trout fishing is good at the inlet. Try using olive- or black-colored streamers with lots of sparkle and sinking line.

Hyrum Reservoir

Park Ranger Steve Bullock reports good fishing. Most anglers are catching their limits, whether they are trolling or casting from a boat or the shore. Anglers are catching good-sized trout and even some 3-pound fish. The water level is rising about a foot a week.

Logan River

Anglers are starting to catch fish with egg patterns, even though the spawn hasn't started yet. The spawn will start soon, however, so take care to avoid treading on spawning beds. Another angler had success on the surface with a stimulator.

Lost Creek Reservoir

Hunter Greg Farley reports slow, but consistent, bank fishing for 13- to 15-inch rainbows. Try green or yellow PowerBait. The morning hours are the most consistent in yielding fish.

Mirror Lake

The weather is still allowing some access to the great fall brook trout fishing.

Newton Reservoir

Fingerling muskie were stocked this summer, so -- to bridge the gap between the older muskie and the newer generations -- it is very important for anglers to release all muskie. Releasing muskie will help ensure good muskie fishing in the coming years. Remember, it is illegal to use whole fish as bait. Anglers who do will be cited. It is also illegal to keep tiger muskies. Anglers can not only be cited for keeping a tiger, but also face the possible revocation of fishing privileges.

Ogden River

Division fish surveys conducted over the last 10 days on the South Fork and Main Stem of the Ogden River have found healthy brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout populations. The brown trout are really starting to color up.

Pineview Reservoir

Angler Greg Moore reports good fishing for crappie with 3- and 4-inch tube jigs. He also had success for small and largemouth bass, perch and bluegill with smaller crappie jigs. The water temperature is around 59 degrees.

Weber River

Anglers are catching brown trout as the fish are concentrating to spawn. Take care to avoid treading on spawning beds.
