RUSTON -

BLACK BAYOU – No report; too much rain.

CANEY LAKE – This is one of very few lakes in the area with minimal watershed that the rains like we had this week affect very little. Bass fishing has been good with fish up to 8 1/2 pounds caught. A good many chinquapins are being caught on cold worms while crappie fishing is better at night fishing shiners under the lights, especially in the Smith Branch area.

CHENIERE LAKE – The water is high and muddy and there are no fishing reports on this lake this week.

LAKE CLAIBORNE – The lake is up about 2 feet but fishing remains fairly good. Some good sized bream are being caught along with lots of bass but the bass are running pretty small. Crappie are fair around brush in 18-20 feet water on shiners and jigs. Catfishing has been good for mostly blue cats on trotlines and stump hooks fished deep in the main channel. Water is rising below the spillway and some good fishing is expected any day.

LAKE D’ARBONNE – Excess water is the problem with one gate open at the spillway but water still running over the spillway. The only good fishing is with the catfish that seem to never stop biting cold worms in the lake. No report on bass, bream or crappie until the water settles down.

OUACHITA RIVER – The river is rising significantly and nobody is fishing.

LAKE POVERTY POINT – The lake level has not been affected by the rains but steady and incessant rains have kept most anglers off the lake so fishing reports this week are basically non-existent.

LAKE ST. JOHN – Catfishing is good on yo-yos baited with shiners or cold worms. No reports on crappie, bass and bream.

LAKE YUCATAN – The lake is rising and the bream bite is on with lots of big bream caught. Crappie fishing is fair; no report on bass and barfish.
