INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

Reports continue to come in from near Sebastian Inlet about the beginnings of the mullet run. In addition to mullet, Mike Ricciardi reported schools of greenies surrounding the north jetty as well. Spanish mackerel, jacks, ladyfish, bluefish, snook and redfish are in the mix with the best snook fishing at night now. Some of the redfish are huge, in the 35-40-pound range. The mullet are schooling through the lagoon as well, turning on the bite virtually everywhere.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY

Brennan Smith of The Fishing Center of St. Lucie in Fort Pierce said the mullet are here. The bait population is creating great flats-fishing conditions in spots like the west shore of the Indian River Lagoon down to Midway Road. Mullet are getting blown up at first light around docks by snook, trout and redfish. Fishing a free-lined live mullet or a D.O.A. Baitbuster should get your share. Tarpon are being caught from the mouth of the inlet to South Bridge. Offshore, cobia action is slowing. Kings are in 35 feet.

MARTIN COUNTY

Angler Jack McPadden from Port St. Lucie called in a report from a half-day’s fishing aboard the Lady Stuart I partyboat out of Hutchinson Island Marriott Marina. Capt. David Knight steered anglers to a great catch before the rains came Thursday. McPadden said the day’s catch included a 23-pound cobia, a 26-pound kingfish, four throwback genuine red snappers, three large triggerfish and numerous vermilion snappers. Inshore, rain aside, snook fishing around structure is good.

LAKE OKEECHOBEE

The lake measured 14.34 feet Thursday. Bass fishing has been pretty good from Point of the Reef to Clewiston down along Observation Shoal. Fishing away from the bulrushes in the eel grass and pepper grass has been very good with Senkos, 10-inch black worms and jerk baits. Fish along shorelines with Rat-L-Traps and lipless crank baits for good action. Topwater lures work well early in the day. Bluegill fishing has been best with live crickets around spots with moving water.
