MIAMI-DADE/BROWARD

Devon Zifferblatt, 16, and his father Harry fished Bimini, and Devon hooked and landed a 34-pound black grouper on 40-pound line. Devon caught it on a 2/0 Mustad live bait hook and a piece of squid. The grouper has been submitted for two possible world records, one for Junior Angler and the other Adult Angler 50-pound class. Captain Bob LeMay reports excellent late evening small tarpon action in Biscayne Bay. Jose ''Bill'' Cuervo of Fort Lauderdale caught a 24.6-pound kingfish in 120 feet of water off Pompano Beach while fishing on the Sweet Emily with captain Eddie Marshburn.

KEYS

William Greene fished with captains Ken and Clay Harris out of Key West and caught lemon sharks on fly and plug in the backcountry, tarpon just outside the harbor and sailfish, mutton snapper, kingfish and barracudas offshore on the Atlantic side. Alec Rosen from Miami and his son Ruben, 15, fished the Flamingo area with captain Mike Bassett of Born & Raised Backcountry Fishing Charters out of Abels Marina in Islamorada and caught and released 18 snook, most in the slot, three goliath groupers, and kept a limit of sea trout and snappers. The Bassetts were casting live pinfish and pilchards.

TREASURE COAST

Henry Caimotto from the Snook Nook Bait and Tackle in Jensen Beach reports with the recent west winds fishing from the beach has been fantastic. Anglers fishing from first light till 9 a.m. have had a lot of action on large snook, tarpon, whiting and big jack crevalles by casting three- to four-inch flashy plugs parallel to the shoreline.

FLORIDA BAY

Captain Benny Blanco of Flamingo Fishing Charters reported good action despite the west winds in Florida Bay. Blanco has been targeting the very shallow flats and finding clear water and hungry snook, redfish, tarpon and sea trout. Captain Jim Hobales of Caught Lookin Charters reported good redfish action on the Florida Bay flats. Hobales reported recent strong west winds and stormy conditions have made the fishing hit and miss.

SOUTHWEST COAST

Captain Bert Barkus of Ckokoloskee Island Charters reported that west winds and stormy conditions have made tarpon and snook fishing in his area difficult, but in between the windy and wet conditions, his anglers are catching plenty of fish. Rob Bibb and his son Zach fished the Pine Island Sound area with captain Butch Rickey of BarrHopp'R Charters out of Fort Myers and caught redfish to 26 inches plus snook, shovel nosed sharks and catfish while fishing with live pilchards and pinfish.

FRESHWATER

Water levels at Lake Okeechobee were at 12.27 feet. Howard Kleeman of Slim's Fishing Camp in Belle Glade reported good largemouth bass action during early mornings on top water plugs and soft plastic worms. Best areas have been the Dynamite Holes, Pelican Bay, Normans Channel and along the outside edges of the grass. Jennifer Turner of Sawgrass Recreation Park reported largemouth bass were hitting live shiners and red worms in the east canal and panfish also were available. Turner reported high water levels, but the flood gates were due to open any day.
