LAKES

AMADOR: Trout fishing remains very good here although planting has ceased. Bass are being caught around points. Catfish are starting to trickle in. 209-274-4739, 274-6996.

BERRYESSA: Trout are in the top 10 feet and salmon are down 50 feet. Crappie fishing is good in the morning and bass are in the shallows near rocky points. 707-966-7708.

CAMANCHE: Trollers getting out at first light are finding trout near the surface. Once the sun is up, trout retreat to 25 feet deep. Bass are in pre- and post-spawn. Catch-and-release is urged. 209-763-5914, 763-5166.

CHABOT: Trout fishing is steady for trollers. Bass fishing has yet to take off. 510-247-2526.

CLEAR: Up-and-down weather conditions have made fishing uneven. The lure bite has been slow, but bass have been going after minnows. Bass are in both pre-spawn and post-spawn, so fish are both shallow and deep. 707-279-4739.

CONTRA LOMA: The lake level here is low and the docks and boat ramps are closed. Water will get pumped back in June. Despite that, the fishing has been good. Highlight of the week was provided by Glenn Willis of Antioch, who caught a 7-pound, 14-ounce catfish with rainbow Power Bait. 925-757-0404.

DEL VALLE: Trout and striped bass fishing is decent. The trout bite is steady and spread about the lake. Stripers are being caught trolling down 25 feet, mostly near the dam. 925-449-5201.

DON PEDRO: Rainbows, kokanee and king salmon all are being caught. Trout are in the top 20
feet. Kokanee are being caught from Goose Island past Buzzard Point down 50 feet. Salmon are moving from Fleming Bay, Middle Bay and the Big Creek arm. Use anchovies and get down 80 to 125 feet. Salmon to 7 pounds are being caught. 209-586-2383.

LAFAYETTE: Power Bait, nightcrawlers and Power Eggs get trout at the south end of the lake. Trollers pull jointed Rapalas, rainbow runners and Kastmasters. Bass are in pre-spawn and moving onto beds in the shallows. 925-284-9669.

LOS VAQUEROS: The South Cove and the shoreline near the Marina have been productive for bank anglers hunting trout. Boaters do well at the mouth of the South Cove and Howeden Cove. Crappie and catfish are starting to bite. 925-371-2628.

MARTIS: Early-season trout fishing has been good at this little lake outside of Truckee. Strip olive or brown woolly buggers during the day and switch to black toward the evening. Leeches also work. 530-587-4844.

NEW MELONES: Kokanee in the 18-inch, 2-pound class are being caught on a regular basis. Glory Hole Point, the spillway and under the Highway 49 Bridge are hot spots. Fish are spread from 26 to 55 feet under the surface. 209-586-2383.

NEW HOGAN: Striped bass are biting off Deer Flat, the dam and near the island and narrows. Stripers are holding in 10 to 25 feet. 209-586-2383.

PARDEE: As the lake level drops, trolling is the best way to fish this lake. Best results come from the face of the dam, the river mouth and the arm up to Indian Rock. Rainbow trout and kokanee are the reward. 209-772-8108.

PROSSER: Fly anglers are getting trout in the morning and evening. Trollers and bait anglers are doing well throughout the day. 530-587-4844.

QUARRY LAKES: Trout fishing has been on the slow side. A handful of trout in the 3- to 6-pound class have been caught in the last week, but smaller fish have had lockjaw. Consider two fish per outing a good day. 510-795-4883.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: The Tower is the best spot for trout and trolling Rapalas has been the best method for hooking larger trout. Nightcrawlers work best for bank anglers. 510-223-1661.

SHADOW CLIFFS: A plant of 500 pounds of trout is going in this week and 1,500 will go in next week. Fishing has been productive for both trout and bass.

SHASTA: Salmon are averaging 20 to 22 inches around Digger Bay, Dry Creek and near the dam. Schools of shad have attracted bass, salmon and trout. Trolling or using plastics (bass) or shad-patterned lures (salmon and trout). 530-275-4939.

STAMPEDE: The Little Truckee above Stampede is being stocked and producing well. Top-lining for kokanee has been productive. Mackinaw fishing has been tougher. 530-587-4844.

RIVERS

SACRAMENTO (Lower): Striped bass are plentiful near Colusa. Most are 10 to 12 pounds with a few to 15 pounds. Trout fishing between Redding and Anderson has been steady for those using nymphs. 530-221-6151.

STANISLAUS: The river has been fair. Beaver Creek is decent. Fish near the bottom because the cold water has the fish moving slowly. 209-795-1686.

TRUCKEE: This is running high due to releases from Tahoe. Water is murky, too. No word on how long this will continue. The Little Truckee River is an alternative. Fish with midges, blue wing olives and San Juan worms. 530-587-4844.

DELTA

FRANK'S TRACT: Most of the bass are in the 2- to 3-pound range, and there are plenty. Crank baits and swim baits are best. Use crank baits in deeper water and the swim baits along the reed lines. 925-625-2441.

RIO VISTA: Striped bass are plentiful from Isleton to Rio Vista. Larger bass are showing in greater numbers. A 39-pounder was weighed in last week. Most range 10 to 12 pounds. Soaking bait or trolling will work. 707-374-2372.

TRACY: Catfish and black bass fishing has been decent, while striped bass have been scarce. Grant Line and Fabian are the top spots for the cats and bass. 209-835-3182.

SALTWATER

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE: Party boats are taking advantage of excellent halibut fishing by drifting live bait on the Berkeley Flats, Richmond Flats and the Oakland Airport. Anglers are averaging two fish per rod. Big fish of the week was a 29-pounder, but most are 10 to 12 pounds. Striped bass are in the mix. 510-237-3474, 654-6040, 223-5388.

PACIFICA: It's been too windy to brave the pier and the water off the beaches has been rough. When it's fishable, there are striped bass on the beaches -- not in great numbers, but they are in the area. Perch fishing is decent for those using blood worms or pile worms. 650-355-8303.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY: Boaters continue to get halibut from the swirl out front of Oyster Point. Best fish of the week was a 24-pound halibut. Wind has kept boats from venturing too far from the protected harbors. 650-589-3474.

SAN PABLO BAY: Halibut fishing is very good when the wind allows fishing. Many are averaging two fish per angler when tides are mild and the wind dies. The tides back down this weekend; hopefully the winds will, too. Paradise is the top spot. An angler using shiners off the Paradise Pier last week landed a limit of halibut. Some bass are in the area. 415-456-0321.

SUISUN BAY: Sturgeon fishing remains good at buoys 2, 4 and 6 and Ozol. There also have been a half-dozen keeper sturgeon brought in from the Martinez Pier. There are stripers near the Glomar. 925-229-9420.
