Lakes
AMADOR: The lake has been rising three to five feet per day over the past month and is 22 feet from full. There is debris in the water, but it is clear enough for quality fishing. A ton of trout was planted on Tuesday. (209) 274-4739
CAMANCHE: The crappie bite is on and fish to 1 pound and up are being taken in Causeway Cove, the mouth of Camanche Cove and the coves in lower lake. Minnows or mini-jigs work. Trout trollers catch fish in the Narrows and near Hat Island and the dam. Top-line with Rapalas in firetiger or black and gold. (209) 763-5914, (209) 763-5166
CHABOT: Raccoon Point, the island and the dam are the top spots for trout. Bait is best from shore. Trollers pull Rapalas. (510) 247-2526
CLEAR: Warmer weather and longer days have made the bass want to move into the shallows, but the water temperature has to improve before large numbers of bass will move in. The artificial bite is slow. Fisherman are catching bass on a large variety of lures from plastics to crank baits. Keep on the move and try a little of everything. The north end of the lake has started to produce but mid lake and south are still best bets. (707) 279-4739
CONTRA LOMA: Muddy water has slowed the fishing. Pressure has been light. (925) 757-0404
DEL VALLE: It's been slow due to light pressure. There is a rumor of a 30-pound cat being caught on Tuesday. Water
conditions are muddy. (925) 449-5201
LAFAYETTE: Pressure has been light, but those who have come out catch trout on bait at the east cove. The water is murky but fishable. (925) 284-9669
LOS VAQUEROS: Trout fishing is fair at Oak Point. Limits are attainable, but expect at least a trout or two to take Power Bait, Power Eggs or nightcrawlers. Bass fishing is slow. (925) 371-2628
NEW MELONES: The lake has risen three feet in the past week but the water mid-lake is clear and full of schooling shad. Bait and lures are producing trout for shore anglers and boat anglers finding the shad schools and anchoring are catching trout. Bass in the four- to eight-pound range are taking spinnerbaits in 30 feet of water. (209) 586-2383
PARDEE: The lake is rising quickly, making the water a bit murky upriver. Shore anglers near the marina find clear water and have continued to catch trout. (209) 772-8108
SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: Trout fishing was good on Saturday's opener with a fair showing of limits but few large fish. Water conditions are murky making bait fishing from shore the best way to go. (510) 223-1661
QUARRY LAKES: The Peninsula has been the hot spot for trout. Power Bait is the hot ticket. But trolling also has been worthwhile. Larry Vought of Milpitas last week caught three trout weighing 9 pounds, 8 pounds and 4 pounds while trolling a Rooster Tail. (510) 795-4883
Rivers
NORTH COAST RIVERS: The South Fork of the Eel above Benbow is fishable. The Smith is green and putting out some fish. Everything else is blown out and the rivers need a good five days without rain to become fishable. For up-to-date information on river flows, call: (707) 822-3164; (707) 442-1832
RUSSIAN: The river is high and blown out. Give this five to seven days to clear enough for worthwhile steelhead fishing. The Gualala and Garcia rivers may be ready by the weekend, however. (707) 869-2156
TRINITY: This weekend looks to be an ideal weekend. There is color in the streams feeding the Trinity and there are reports of fresh fish near Junction City. (530) 623-4999
Delta
RIO VISTA: Fresh water is flushing through the Delta making sturgeon conditions decent, but pressure has been light. The weekend was productive at Cache Slough, Montezuma Slough and the Power Lines. (707) 374-2372
TRACY: Striped bass are taking trolled broken-back rebels in Grant Line Canal. The black bass bite has fluctuated with the weather. (209) 835-3182
Saltwater
SAN FRANCISCO BAY: It's been slow due to lack of pressure. The water is muddy and nice for sturgeon. Not so nice for halibut. (650) 589-3474
SAN PABLO BAY: Conditions are ripe for sturgeon, all that's needed are anglers. Tides are good, the weekend weather is clear and the bay is chocolate brown. (415) 456-0321
SUISUN BAY: There are sturgeon being caught at the end of the Mothball Fleet and Montezuma Slough. Grass shrimp/eel combos and ghost/grass shrimp combos are the top baits. (510) 223-5388, (925) 229-9420
