North Platte Region

Trout fishing is "fantastic" on the Gray Reef of the North Platte River where the water flow is 1,800 cfs out of Gray Reef Dam. The top flies are baetis patterns, split foam-backs, red rock worms and egg patterns. Anglers should fish the deeper run and resist the urge to fish for spawning trout they see.

Ryan Anderson, Platte River Fly Shop in Casper

Trout fishing is good at Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs using worms and glitter Power Bait/marshmallows. Boat anglers using jigs are catching some walleye at Alcova around Black Beach.

Yolanda Strand, Sloane's General Store in Alcova

The walleye fishing is a little slow at Glendo Reservoir, although one angler caught a 10.5-pound walleye last week. Most anglers have been using jigs and minnows.

Rob Davis, Wyoming Walleye Circuit president

Spring runoff is starting so the Upper North Platte River near Saratoga is high and muddy.

Trout fishing is fair on the Laramie River, although the water is a little off-color. Try halfbacks, San Juan worms, vanilla buggers, copper johns and hare's ears.

Around the state

Reports from the Laramie Plains Lakes are that Lake Hattie is turning over, making the lake a little murky but the trout fishing is good. The trout fishing is also good at Alsop Lake and Moeber Lake was recently stocked with trout.

For all three lakes, fly fishers should do well using princes, olive wooly buggers, hothead leeches, San Juan worms and egg patterns. For spin and bait anglers try Little Cleos, Crocodiles, Rapalas, egg sacs, worms and Power Bait.

Lorenzo Vigil, West Laramie Fly Store in Laramie

The last cold front that pushed through central Wyoming made it a quiet weekend at Boysen Reservoir, but a few anglers caught some walleye off of points with jigs and minnows or jigs and plastics. Trout fishing is good near the boat ramp for bait anglers using egg sacs, Power Bait and night crawlers. Fly fishers are doing well for trout there too.

Gary Hackett, Boysen Marina

In the Cody region, snowmelt is subsiding and both the South Fork and the North Fork of the Shoshone River are clearing. Trout are actively feeding on stonefly nymphs and midge pupae in the South Fork. The North Fork is only open for fishing above Newton Creek.

Flows are up on the Lower Shoshone, which has slowed the fishing a bit. The best flies have been parachute Adams, sparkle duns, Griffith's gnats, royal trudes and Hemingway caddis on top; sow bugs, scuds, FRMs, San Juan worms and beadhead nymphs underneath.

Tim Wade, North Fork Anglers in Cody

News from the southwest is that the ice is off Flaming Gorge Reservoir where anglers are catching some nice-sized rainbow trout on night crawlers and marshmallows. Not very many macs have been caught yet, but they should start biting soon.
