INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
Conditions for productive bottom fishing lined up with relatively calm seas and a full moon over the weekend. Snapper, sea bass and triggerfish bite well. At Sebastian Inlet, anglers caught a mixed bag of fish including black drum, sheepshead, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and sharks. The Sebastian Inlet District Web site reported four sharks caught and releases for angler Jeff Ivers and friend — two lemons and two bulls.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY
Capt. Joe Ward of Capt. Joe's River charters in Fort Pierce said the inshore fishing has been steady with good catches of Spanish mackerel, snapper and sheepshead along the channel edges of the Intracoastal Waterway north of North Bridge. Redfish are in shallow water along the mangrove shorelines near Jack Island. Trout fishing has been good on D.O.A. shrimp and jerk baits south of Midway Road.
MARTIN COUNTY
Steve Dixon and Zach Boynton sent in a report of catching six bonefish in 30 minutes while fishing just north of The Crossroads in the Indian River Lagoon. They used squid strips on No. 2 circle hooks. Angler Alan McNabb sent in a report of good fishing near Hell's Gate for pompano and Spanish mackerel on the outgoing tide while drifting live shrimp. Near the St. Lucie Inlet, he caught snapper, sheepshead and spots, too.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE
Many anglers are finding the bass, but don't expect a 30-fish day. Shiner fishing is improving, but anglers should seek shallower water near the islands and fish in the heavy grass along the edges. Creature baits like frogs are getting a few bites, too. Speck fishing is good for dedicated anglers willing to put their time in. The Kissimmee River is still one of the best spots to catch fish with minnows on jigs.
