Lake Erie's tributary streams were painfully low until Thursday morning, when rains had them flowing high and muddy. Conditions are expected to be near perfect by the weekend said Matt Hrycyk of Poor Ricjard's Bait and Tackle in Erie. Anglers were getting steelhead early this week, he added, on single eggs, minnows and small flies -- and on Powerbait near the creek mouths.

Anglers fishing Keystone State Park's lake this past week were catching largemouth bass up to 12 inches and crappies on small shiners, said Paul Volkmann, former owner of Pee-Vee's Bait and Tackle in Latrobe. Trolling a trout magnet also was picking up bass and bluegills, he said.

The Monongahela River around Point Marion has been giving up channel catfish and walleyes in the 19- to 20-inch range, according to Fish and Boat Commission reports. Anglers were getting the fish on minnows and nightcrawlers. Walleyes, sauger and striped bass hybrids have been hitting at Grays Landing.

A few anglers have been targeting trout in the delayed harvest section of Loyalhanna Creek, said Rich Kacsuta of Loyalhanna Fishing Post in Ligonier. Catches have been rare, though.

Anglers using nightcrawlers and Fireballs have been doing well on trout at Indian Lake, said Martha Martino of Jimmy's Sport Shop in South Greensburg.

Silver jigging spoons and shiners have been the key to catching bass and walleyes at the Back Channel Dam on the Ohio River, said Mike Pugh of Island Firearms of Neville Island. Things have been slower around Emsworth Dam.

A few people have been fishing Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, with bluegills and crappies being caught most frequently.

Anglers tossing maggots and wax worms have worked well on trout in Montour Creek.

Fishing on the Allegheny River has been slow, said Mark Osiecki of Lock 3 Bait and Tackle in Cheswick. Fishermen have been picking up some channel cats on shiners and chicken livers, though.

At Pymatuning Lake, anglers have been catching some walleyes in the Jamestown area using worms, harnesses, jigs and minnows, said Patti Poff of Poff's Place in Espyville. A few small perch and some catfish also have been hitting.

Pine Creek and Deer Creek have been giving up some trout.

Small fatheads have been the bait for catching crappies at Crooked Creek Lake, said Mike Goodman of Goodman's Bait and Tackle in Ford City.

Few people have been fishing Kooser or Laurel Hill lakes this week.

At Donegal Lake, the few people fishing were getting some bass, bluegills, crappie and perch this week, said Jeff Kuhn of Scott's Bait Shop in Donegal. Wax worms, maggots and nigthcrawlers have been the popular baits.

Minnows fished under a bobber have been getting yellow perch at Lake Arthur, said Jerry O'Donnell of O'Donnell's Sports Supplies in Prospect. Crappies and bass have been hitting, too, while anglers using nightcrawlers continue to pick up a few scattered walleyes, he added.
