I enjoy fishing and I guess if you are reading this you do too.

Bedding Bluegills with a fly rod and poppers, summertime wet wading for Channel Catfish and the spring spawning rum of slab Crappies are high on my to-do list. But over the years, I have been possessed by the steelhead demons.

The attacks start in late September and continue monthly through April. Even snow and ice do not stop the urge or keep me away. The only cure is traveling to Lake Erie and catching steelhead so that is just what I do.

If you have an interest or you are just curious and would like to see what I am talking about then check out my blog, pictures, videos and reports. The URL address is http://www.storytrax.com/node/195

My next trip to Lake Erie for Steelhead is planned for March 14th. Hopefully by then winter weather will not be an issue, but I am going no matter what!

Oh yeah, this is off the subject, but I also made a trip to the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial Site near Somerset, Pennsylvania this fall and took some images and video. You can see the place for yourself. http://www.storytrax.com/node/213

I live really close to Lake Erie, and you're making me feel guilty that I haven't fished there yet! Is there any season you think would be best for me to try first?

FourBear:

Don't feel guilty, we all live near great fishing sites that we never take time to fish.

If you live close to Erie, you are one lucky angler.

The "best" season depends on your style of fishing. For Steelhead - the first warm spring day with good water levels on the tributaries is golden. For Bass - late April and the month of May C&R, the season opens in June after the spawn. Perch/Walley - you will need some advice from others, I am a rookie. For Crappie - May.

Find people who are out fishing at these times and just ask for advice. Most people share, but be prepared for those who don't.

My next trip to Erie is planned for March 14th. By then, the winter ice should have cleared and open water will be available.

Have a great day.

The ice should be cleared by then, but not if this horribly frigid weather keeps up!

Thanks for the information. I might just start up around bass season, since that's when I should start having some more free time.

Thanks for writting back. I took time to fish a local site last week - Raystown Lake Spillway. No fish, great day to be out though.

I took some pictures and video and here is the link.

Everytime I post these links I wonder if other anglers can open and view the videos. There was a time when I could not, but I got help from a friend who helped me download the free software.

Have a good day.
