Can anyone recommend a fishing outfit for a beginning fisherman?

The gear, such as a pole and lines, and reel, too?

You can find great fishing outfits on ebay. That's where I find all of my fishing outfits and fishing gear, they have really good prices.

You might want to start off with an enclosed reel, so you have less of a chance of tangling the line. Having a button-press release may be helpful too.

We have bought a couple "beginning" reel sets at Walmart. In fact, my husband gets alot of his fishing gear there. :o I have one reel, that's all I need. I don't fish often enough to need more than one.

It probably is best to just buy a whole cheaper set from Walmart...hardly any assembly required! I still have a setup like that that's over 15 years old, and still works great.

I think my rod and reel are about that old, too, FourBear. We do minor upkeep on it at the beginning of the season - changing the line, oiling. But it still works just fine. Of course, we weren't fishing as much when the kids were really little (I just didn't feel comfortable having babies by the water) but now they're ready to hit the water as soon as it's warm enough to be outside. LOL

I had one of those years ago. You're right - those work much easier than open reels.

I agree in principle, but don't go TOO cheap. I remember as a kid getting really frustrated by junk spincast reels.

A Zebco 33 is a nice setup. You can buy the rod/reel combo at Walmart for a reasonable price. They also have a begginers box.. Its a tackle box with all the basics and it is reasonably priced too. If you can afford it, Bass Pro has an entire kit and it is AWESOME... although kinda pricy too.
