Fishing has now been made easy with the dawn of fishing maps. Fishing maps are literally maps that are used by people who fish, both for commercial and recreational purposes. It is unlike a lake map that just shows you what the body of water looks like: its contours and its boundaries. A fishing map should address the concerns of fishing. They have vital information about the chosen body of water that is very important to you if you really want to catch fish.
A fishing map tells you about different details found in the body of water: the amount of forage; the thickness of the growth of weed; what bait to use that is excellent for this type of water; the average temperature of the water; what the varying water depths are and where they are located; location of stump fields and dead falls; the longitude and latitude of certain distinct water landmarks; what species of fish are available this season; when is the best time to get a certain specie of fish; and what area to those fish occupy more frequently. It also shows the location of the boat ramps to aid the people as to where to launch their boats from shore. It should also be, more importantly, legible to read and easy to understand since data that is confusing the reader is not information at all.
Almost each kind of body of water in the world has an available fishing map, especially those frequented by fish catching hobbyists. Some are even available through the global positioning system GPS, providing them with up to date and instant news on the condition of the body of water. Not all fishing maps give the important details that you would need. Since there are several publishers of fishing maps, they each try to include details that they think will help them fish better. Unfortunately, there will always be some detail lacking in the fishing map or an unwanted detail affecting the overall legibility of the map.
What is the purpose of these fishing maps? They serve as a guide to anglers or people who go fishing for the intent of recreation or those who look for fish for a living. Each detail in the map is correlated with each other to be able to locate the best area to find certain specie of fish such as carp, bass, walleye, etc. If you are fishing in a territory that you are not familiar with, these maps will help a great deal since they provide you with data on the underwater topography of the body of water. They also can tell you where there are a vast number of fish through the GPS system.
You would probably spend a whole day in your boat, catching no fish, if you won’t use a fishing map to tell you where your dinner is swimming to. And while moving around the lake, looking for that would-be tasty dinner, you stand the risk of getting stuck into reefs, overgrowth of weeds, and getting yourself lost, frustrated and hungry, not knowing all the while, that the fish you seek is just hiding beneath your boat. Maybe after this experience, you will decide to have one before venturing out to fish again.
